Mass revulsion amongst Hindus across the globe ensued as a repulsive Burger King print Ad featuring Goddess Lakshmi perched on top of a meat sandwich was run across three restaurants in Spain.
Burger King has a worldwide string of hamburger fast food outlets that operate in more than 70 countries. The press advertisement was unveiled in Spain which heavily tugged at the Hindu emotional sentiments leading to insurmountable indignation among the Hindu American Foundation (HAF) reaching as far as the US. As news spread, in India, the BJP political party raised severe objections wanting to urgently address the matter in Parliament on Thursday, desiring the Government’s intercession in order to put a halt on such aversive practices.
A Burger King Representative, Denise T Wilson, emphasised that that they are utterly remorseful for the undue offence causes to the Hindu community across the globe, stating that it was not deliberate. The statement was released after several marked protests were launched demanding that the burger giant must compensate to the community for the distraught caused therewith. Wilson further underlined that Burger King has always espoused its patrons in high regard and the ad was circulating to assist in just the local endorsement for three restaurants located in Spain. The ad has been taken off ever since.
The Goddess Lakshmi emblem was displayed on the burger packets with the catchy slogan stating in Spanish ‘A snack that’s sacred’. Many are of the opinion that the ad has deliberately used sacred depictions from other religions as a ploy to garner commercial gains.
