The fatality count due to moonshine seems to be constantly ticking with count touching a massive 102 on Friday, making it amongst the most sordid calamities to occur in the history of Gujarat. Ironically, the state has proscribed liquor in reverence to Mahatma Gandhi who firmly detested intoxication.

This has lead to flourishing of the covert liquor trade that grosses an annual trade of Rs 100 million with public from all strata involved in this trade. Several cheap liquors are coyly available in dens making it the viable choice amongst the poor masses.

Close to 170 affected are still admitted in the four hospitals in Ahmedabad. A humiliated Gujarat government is trying hard to salvage the grim situation by requesting the Principal Secretary, Mr. Amarjit Singh to individually follow up with the progress of the affected people lodged in the hospitals.

A Congress incited general strike stirred a lack lustre response in Odhav, Amraiwadi and Nikol located in east Ahmedabad, which are hot beds for such infamous activities. The prime kingpin Harishankar Kahar, a.k.a, Hari was taken in custody by the Crime Branch on Wednesday night, following several raids at his den in Odhav, with hundreds of litres being held.

Though the original dealer of the toxic drink is still unclear, Hari seems to be furnishing crucial clues towards the investigation, though he is still mum regarding the truth of the original provider.

The Gujarat assembly bore witness to mayhem that compelled Speaker Ashok Bhatt to suspend the whole batch of Congress legislators excluding the opposition leader Shaktissinh Gohil for interrupting the session over the liquor disaster issue.
