Bibi Sabera Ahmadzai an Afghan nationality came to India to claim her status of legal rights of a wife after her husband Major Chandra Shekhar Pant bumped her. Delhi Court in India stated Sabera case as case of bigamy and court has ordered Major Pant to pay monthly maintenance.

Couple got married in Kabul according to Islamic rites. Court has ordered Major Pant to pay 8000 Indian rupees every month. Major Pant denied his marriage with Ms. Sabera and added saying his appearance is fictitious in the wedding video produced in the court as a proof. Pant told he was already married have two children. Court has just stated a temporary order full judgment is yet to be heard. While Sabera appeals action against Pant for bigamy, the trial court’s observation came after it found the incident to be a prima facie case of economic abuse falling within the definition of domestic violence. The court also confirmed Ms Ahmadzai’s relation with major Pant as a relationship in nature of marriage. Defense ministry has not responded or commented anything apart from saying ministry would investigate the case. Ms Ahmadzai lawyer Ravindra Garia said she would pursue the case further. He added saying the court should pass a similar final order so that she can get compensation for the mental trauma caused by Major Pant conduct. Ms Ahmadzai was working as a Hindi translator in a hospital in Kabul when she met her husband later on they decided to get married. Her husband converted to Islam after the approval from her family and relatives. They were together for near about 15 days then he was transferred back to India. He promised to return with his parents. In the span of six months he just called her thrice however his last conversation through phone he said that she was young and can marry again, he already have two kids and a wife.
