Ugandan army has detained Somalia’s minister of defense during a trip to Kampala. A report from relatives and government mentioned gunmen has kidnapped Sheikh Yusuf Mohammad Said a former Islamist warlord also known as “Inda’ade” or “white eye.”
Lt Col Felix Kulayigye Ugandan army spokesperson said minister had come for uncertain reason and they noticed and picked an interest in him. Local security forces detained as the visit aroused suspicion. It is believed gunmen kidnapped the minister and held him in secret jail as he walked out of a mosque in Kampala. Somali ambassador in Kampala later confirmed he was aware about the minister in Ugandan custody. Uganda provides many of the troops for African Union Mission to Somalia. Mr. Said was bundled into a car but the reason of arrest of such a high dignitary is not clear. Said was before a member of Hizbul- Islam an Islamist group that has been fighting against Somali government, which is supported by Ugandan peacekeeping troops attached to the African Union force in Somalia. He defeated Somali government earlier this year and was appointed as defense minister in June under Mr. Ahmad. Somali has experienced almost constant conflict since the collapse of its central government in 1991. Siid Ahmed confirmed and government was seeking details about what had happened and seems to do something with legal papers.
