Taliban incarcerated U.S. soldier pleas for aid

Taliban incarcerated U.S. soldier pleas for aid

A U.S. soldier detained by the Taliban in a video placed on the Internet is seen saying ‘scared I won’t be able to go home’. Identified by Pentagon on Sunday as 23 year old Pfc. Bowe R. Bergdahl from Ketchum, Idaho who was in the Alaska based infantry regiment, was captured from the Paktika province in south-east Afghanistan on 30th June.

Taliban commander Mulvi Sangeen in a telephonic conversation with CNN at an unidentified location has issued warning to kill Bergdahi if the foreign military troops persist in targeting civilians on the pretext of investigative operations in Paktika and Ghazni province. Sangeen said that Bergdahl had made a visit to a military post in the Paktika province, got intoxicated and was ensnared when returning to his vehicle, to which the U.S military has flatly denied, calling it a lie. The U.S. military and NATO-led troops have constantly refuted the charges of targeting civilians.

A 28-minute video posting shows the soldier with clean shaven head, a cropping beard, donning a grey outfit and sitting cross legged. In the initial minutes of the video, his identity tag having his name and ID is displayed by the captors. He is seen eating at the last minutes of the recording. The soldier furnishes his identity details and mentions the date as July 14, saying he was captured when he lagged behind during a patrol.

He was interrogated in English on matters ranging from his options of the war, his wish to know Islam in detail and the spirits of the American soldiers to which he replied was low. Bergdahl was seen unable to control his emotions when he reminisces about his near and dear ones, mentioning about his girlfriend whom he hopes to marry. When questioned as to how he was feeling, he said that he was scared he won’t be able to go home, adding that it was very unnerving to be a prisoner.

When asked by the captors to give a message, the soldier urged his fellow Americans to ask the Government to bring them back home, stating that they were wasting their times and precious life here, that which they could use back in America.

Though it is quite fuzzy as to how much of Bergdahl’s statements were authentic or orchestrated. Lt. Commander Sidenstricker, a US military speaker stated that the Taliban were utilising their detainee for cants, and have adopted a course of action that was a sheer violation of international law. She further stated that she was glad to see the soldier was unharmed.

Al Qaeda deputy advocates jihad in Pakistan to fight US

Al Qaeda deputy advocates jihad in Pakistan to fight US

An Al Qaeda website has a voice recording posting of the second in line command, Ayman al-Zawahiri that states that it is the individual responsibility of every Muslim in Pakistan to unite with the Mujahedeen in a campaign to flush out the US-allied government forces in their noble race to establish Pakistan as the stronghold of Islam.

Zawahiri has charged the US of heralding a movement to segregate Pakistan from a Muslim nuclear rule into a split nation of small fragments by stamping out the budding jihad nub. This divide would transform Pakistan into diminutive fractions faithful and reliant to the US.

Zawahiri, the Egyptian radical leader has termed the US allies in Pakistan as a dishonest gang of political leaders and military officials who are skirmishing for the sole purpose of staying on the US pay roll by utilizing Pakistan’s resources and military forces in America’s fight against Islam.

The Pak army undertook anti-insurgency measures to tackle the Taliban in the Swat valley who had laid siege over a district close to Islamabad. This heightened concerns about Pakistan’s nuclear weapon safety and its stability. Pakistan was lauded by the US for its offensive measures against the Taliban.

A leader of Taliban’s faction in Afghanistan, Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, has commented on air in June that if it was possible, the Al Qaeda would utilise Pakistan’s nuclear warehouse to put up a befitting fight against the US.

Saudi Arabia along with Bahrain and Oman have issued an advice to restate the need for basic hygiene instructions like covering the face when sneezing or coughing and the frequent use of antibacterial hand wash and gels. Saudi Arabia has already organised quarantine services at key airports with the notion to skim out possibly infected pilgrims to safe secluded areas. A major swine flu awareness campaign is set to be launched in Saudi Arabia and the UAE prior to the Haj season.
