Mokhairul Islam a Bangladeshi farmer has been crowned as a champion rat catcher of 2009. He killed more than 80,000 rats within a month. More than 500 farmers attended this ceremony organized by the government officials and was honored with a color television.

Mr. Islam a wealthy farmer owns 300 acres of land and six poultry farm. Mokhairul mentioned he killed double the tally set for all during last year. He explained rats as the most feared and dreadful enemy of farmers earlier he used poison to kill rats Officials introduced this competition to reduce rats as they destroy crops. Experts mentioned as Bangladesh the poorest country in the world and rats eat up 10 percent of its crops every year. Mr. Islam was honored to receive this award. Killing of rats has saved lots of money, invested that money on poultry feed, and having better crops. He added saying when he sees even single rats, does not even stop to think, just kill it. He used to deposit the tails of dead rats at agricultural office in Gazipur district as tails increased later they took the figure of 83,450 based on faith. A U.S. soldier detained by the Taliban in a video placed on the Internet is seen saying ‘scared I won’t be able to go home’. Identified by Pentagon on Sunday as 23 year old Pfc. Bowe R. Bergdahl from Ketchum, Idaho who was in the Alaska based infantry regiment, was captured from the Paktika province in south-east Afghanistan on 30th June.

Taliban commander Mulvi Sangeen in a telephonic conversation with CNN at an unidentified location has issued warning to kill Bergdahi if the foreign military troops persist in targeting civilians on the pretext of investigative operations in Paktika and Ghazni province. Sangeen said that Bergdahl had made a visit to a military post in the Paktika province, got intoxicated and was ensnared when returning to his vehicle, to which the U.S military has flatly denied, calling it a lie. The U.S. military and NATO-led troops have constantly refuted the charges of targeting civilians.

A 28-minute video posting shows the soldier with clean shaven head, a cropping beard, donning a grey outfit and sitting cross legged. In the initial minutes of the video, his identity tag having his name and ID is displayed by the captors. He is seen eating at the last minutes of the recording.
